The youngest division within Little League is reserved for our 4 and 5 year old superstars who are picking up a baseball for the first time. To all you parents out there, you probably remember Blastball as T-ball, where players learn the basics and rules of baseball, however there is one MAJOR addition… the LOUD FUN sound first base makes when a player STOMPS on it! Played with a soft baseball, gloves are not necessary but for safety helmets are still worn. Our Blastballers play exclusively at Rochester on a set 2 days per week on a set Mon/Wed OR Tues/Thurs schedule - YOUR CHOICE! The home team in Blastball takes the field positioning themselves in the natural defensive positions, as the Away batter steps up to the tee to swing away. Running to first on contact the race is on! First player to make the base ‘HONK’ wins! An ‘out’ is recorded if the defense fields the baseball and throws it to the first baseman who steps on the Blastbase before the runner, and the runner is ‘safe’ if they can HONK the base first! Fun play rules state that every batter hits every inning, so half innings are complete after the final batter. Sheer fun and excitement on the player’s faces show the impact this game can have on our youngsters, as they learn the fundamentals of a much larger game. Hitting, throwing, catching, running, team play and sportsmanship are the building blocks of Little League and they are all included here with a loud ‘HONK!!!’ New this season, we are going to focus on skill development with our youngsters. Mondays, will be focused around practicing new skills, running through fun drills to build a basic baseball foundation. Wednesdays will be a practice/game split, and both nights will finish up with an action packed base-race!! Attention Blastball Coaches: We have also developed a guide for coaches containing practice plans. There will be set practice plans for each practice day that will guide coaches on what drills to practices while incorporating games to make skill development fun for both players and coaches.
