| Welcome Coaches! This section of our website is designed to accomodate your needs as coaches in our league, and to provide support to make your decisions on and off the field. In the sections below you will discover just what it means to be a coach in our league. We have outlined some of the expectations we place on our coaches, provided some useful tips for running successful practices and offer tools to help develop your players into the best Little Leaguers possible. Your #1 resource is our Coach & Player Development Coordinator, Mark Colligan (colligan1432@shaw.ca), but you can also contact your Division Coordinator, or any one of our Executive members with questions or ideas about how to improve our program. |
| As you register your son or daughter with Coquitlam Little League in the new year, you will likely be asked if you are interested in a Manager or Coaching position with that age group. Before you scream "NO!!" and run away like you just discovered bees can sting, there is lots to consider. First of all, think of your child. Sharing in your son or daughter's play provides a bonding experience that can be achieved in no other way. Second of all, think of how you can spread the joy of Little League to the rest of the players on your child's team. Finally, consider the feeling you will get when you look around and see 13 smiling faces after a big win. Yes, coaching a team requires a time commitment, BUT playing a part in developing tomorrow's leaders makes it all worthwhile. As a coach, rewards come in the form of laughter, cheers and smiles. They are the moments where you congratulate your players on a big win, and build them up after a tough loss. Its easy to be a coach from the stands... take a risk, take on the challange, and become a coach on the field. |
Now we aren't going to leave you hanging... we provide TONS of support to all of our coaches. You are providing a service for us so we want to make you the best coach you can be! We make pre-season training available to all of our coaches by footing the bill for many nationally accredited clinics and we also have LOTS of in-house training. Our Coach & Player Development Coordinator, Mark Colligan, is your number one resource throughout the year, so if you have any questions or would like to register in one or more of our Coach's Clinics please send him an email.
Attention Blastball/Mini-Minor Coaches:
For those parents (with or without baseball experience) that want to help out and coach but are not confident or don't know what to do, we will be introducing experienced professional Mentor Coaches to assist for the first 3 Monday/Tuesday practices. Mentor Coaches will go between fields and teach coaches the proper techniques to teach the players in a fun environment as well as how to follow practice plans.
We have also developed a guide for coaches containing practice plans. There will be set practice plans for each practice day that will guide coaches on what drills to practices while incorporating games to make skill development fun for both players and coaches.
