A new concept this year, Coquitlam Little League is proud to present our first Hitting League. A HUGELY popular concept in Southern California, the hitting league provides a fun opportunity for players to reap the benifits of working with their hitting coach. Instead of just going up for hacks off the machine or off a coach, players focus on taking QUALITY swings to help themselves, and help their team throughout the season. Every Wednesday night Blue Mountain cage is transformed to support a clash of titans as players pick sides and swing away. The centre net is removed to open up the playing area, and the hitting zone is defined. A point system has been set up to encourage hard hit line drives and discourage 'home run' hacks. Zero points are awarded for balls NOT hit into the hitting zone. Players get 1 point for hitting a ground ball to either side that hits the wall within the hitting zone, and get 2 points for line drives in the same area. 1 point is also awarded for hitting the bottom of the back net, 2 points for hitting the top net in the hitting zone, and 4 points are tallied for a line drive that hits the back! Each team gets a half inning consisting of each team member getting 8 swings. No more, no less. Points are added up at the end of the night to declare a winning team and also a batting champion! |

Curtis and Brandon took bragging rights tonight with a big win over Austin and Alex 70-57. Tonight was the final night of our winter season as the CLL Academy is moving into the Wednesday 6pm time slot. Great season everyone!

This week Andrew walked away with the title in a 3 man solo-competition. A grand total of 28 points was enough to pocket himself a $15 itunes gift card. Way to go Andrew!

Week 3 of our hitting league is in the books as the Jaco brothers Tyler and Hayden lead Team Chuck Christ to victory over Gaaaarrr 80-77. Steep competition between the brothers fuelled them each to 30+ hit nights, however the solo champ was Austin of Gaaaarrr who scored a whopping 39 hits! Needing to score 26 hits in his final 2 at bats, MacDonald fell just 3 points shy of tying the match to send it to extras. John Gahr, who took ownership of tonight's team, also put together a strong night with 25 points of his own. Alex and Shawn look forward to next week to rebound from a lack-luster performance tonight.

The second week of CLL's hitting league was a 'smashing' success!! With a 7-man turn-out the Jaco boys picked sides and squared off in a 3 inning affair that saw the Phillies overtake the Yankees 76-64. Alex, Hayden and Andrew each racked up 20+ point nights to defeat an unlucky Yankees squad consisting of Tyler, Brett, John and Shawn. The star of the night, picking up the first weekly batting title was Tyler Jaco with a 23 point game!
