May 3 - The Jays came out strong and never slowed down as they handed the Cardinals a difficult to swallow 14-4 loss. The mercy came at the expence of sportsmanship as the Jays continued their running game after leading by 10 in the 3rd. The Junior Cards did all they could to extend the game, but fell just short in the 5th. Building on the loss, the boys look to their next game on Wednesday night against the heavy hitting Giants. First pitch at 6:05pm.
April 30 - CARDS WIN! CARDS WIN! CARDS WIN! In a rain shortened outting, the Cardinals have taken thier first of the season in an 11-4 routing of the Junior Yankees. Their bats were sizzling as they plated 11 over 5 innings. Coach Shayn Solberg was quoted after the game: "Ya it was messy out there. Not a great night for baseball, but a win is a win. We'll take it." Next up for the Cardinals: the Junior Blue Jays on a rare Monday night game. First pitch 6:00pm.
April 27 - April showers have again ended the Cardinals' hopes of their season's first win tonight against the Giants. The Cardinals' next game is set for Friday night against the Yanks.
April 23 - Steady rain has washed out tonight's game against the Jays. With no end in sight, spring has arrived at Blue Mountain Park
April 21 - It just wasn't in the cards tonight for the Cardinals as they dropped a narrow decision, 5-4 to the powerhouse Yankees. Still looking for their first win of the season, the Cardinals will regroup and come out with force against a tough Jays squad on Friday night.
April 16 - The Cardinals needed a bounce back game after a tough loss the previous night, and after the first 2 innings it wasn't looking good. Robert Henry got the start and was roughed up early allowing 9 runs in the first 2 innings. Hanging their heads after the 2nd, Coach Tyler Olinyk asked his team to step up, keep their heads in the game and play like ball players that are too proud to be kept off the scoreboard. The Cards answered the bell and began to chip away at the Giants' defense and by the 5th inning it was a new ball game, tied 9-9! A comback of epic proportions, the Cards were back in the game, but unfortunately due to time constraints, the 6th would be the final inning. In the top half of the frame the Giants put the pressure on, scoring 3 runs but the Cards couldn't answer and ended up losing 12-9. Even though the scoreboard showed a Cards' loss, the team and coaching staff view this as a huge victory, coming off the disappointing loss to the Jays. The Cardinals look now to Wednesday when they take on the Yankees for their first win of the season.
April 15 - Austin MacDonald took to the mound for the Cardinals last night and pitched a successful and effective 5 innings allowing only 3 runs. The Cards backed up MacDonald's pitching performance plating 6 runs with key hits and speed on the bases. Taking a 6-3 lead into the 7th, the Cards hit a wall and broke down defensively allowing the Jays to come back and plate 9 runs in the top half of the inning. Demoralized, the Cards could no longer focus and were unable to answer back. A tough loss last night, the boys need to shake it off and look ahead to the Giants tomorrow. First pitch 6:05pm.
April 9 -
The Cardinals' first of the season was a tough one as they ended up dropping tonight's decision to the Yankees 9-1. Manager Tyler Olinyk was heard after the game giving praise to his young pitching staff that stepped up tonight. "We are stacked with catchers and outfielders, and many of our 13 year olds are nervous about pitching. In our pre-season games my 13 year olds only had to pitch an inning, tonight I asked for more. Its unfortunate, but its only 1 game. We'll get better." The Cards were able to get a number of runners on base, but were unable to cash in. But, the boys never got down on themselves and kept playing hard regardless of the score. Taking the weekend off, the Cardinals will work hard at Monday's practice, and come out strong against the Jays on Wednesday.
April 7 -
Rain, rain, rain. A disappointed Cardinals squad has taken the night off as their first game of the 2010 season has been postponed. Blue Mountain became beach front property Wednesday, as the park became a not so lucky recipient of 40+ mm of wetness. Looking well prepared from pre-season practices the Cardinals were looking forward to get the season underway, but will have to regroup and prepare for battle Friday night against the league leading Yankees. |
