Turning 13 years old brings you to 'Beautiful Blue Mountain Park' where the game develops to Major League standards. On a much bigger field, these 13/14 year olds begin the season running 80 foot base paths and pitching from a 54 foot rubber. CLL has found that this eases the transition from Mackin's 46' mound and 60' bases on route to a full 60'6"/90' diamond! Differing from other leagues, Coquitlam Little League switches to the full diamond halfway through the Junior's season, as the 60/90 configuration is used throughout post-season play. Marking the halfway point is the Mid-Season Classic, just one of many annual tournaments played out at Blue Mountain.
New concepts for our Juniors to master include lead-offs and pick-offs which make for an exciting baseball experience for players as well as fans! These skills develop quickly with the fast paced schedule as teams play 2-3 games per week, and include weekly league and team practices. An equipment change at the Junior level requires hitters to use 'big-barrel' bats that can range from -10 to -3 in weight.
Our House Program usually consists of 4 teams that play against each other exclusively at Blue Mountain. Monday nights are set aside for mandatory league practice so that all of our players learn the fundamentals of the 'big diamond' and build upon their sportsmanship and team building skills. Game dates vary over the course of the season and could range from 1 to 3 games in a week, but every team is guaranteed a few games under the lights!
Coquitlam also offers an optional more competitive Junior schedule that is available to any House players wanting extra baseball. Our Weekend Program supports 2 teams that will travel to play out-of-town games as well as practice regularly on the weekend. These are not 'select' or 'all-star' teams and no cuts are made. CLL gives this opportunity to players wishing to fine-tune and showcase their skills and also to play teams they normally wouldn't see in the House schedule.
In addition to the regular House and Weekend schedules, our Junior Program includes 2 regular season tournaments, as well as 2 divisions for post-season play. The 12/13 Mid-Season Classic marks the halfway point of the regular season and invites 12 year olds from Mackin to come up and play on the big diamond. Coached by our Big League players, this tournament is an absolute blast for the whole league. The annual Junior Wood-Bat Tournament is included in every Junior team's schedule and provides the opportunity for the 13/14 year olds to drop the aluminum and pick up a piece of lumber to play like the pros! This is a hugely popular tournament throughout the Lower Mainland and includes up to 16 teams from our district.
Post-season play has become a staple of CLL and showcasing our fine young talent the Junior Program sends out 2 teams to battle with the likes of not only Whalley and Langley, but also Medicine Hat, Windsor, Puerto Rico, Aruba and Arizona! Check out the Junior's Post-season pages for more!
Post-season baseball is quickly approaching! Both the Junior Select and Junior All-Star teams will be announced on June 19 in order to prepare for tournaments in July and August. On Monday, June 7 we will be holding a post-season tryout for both teams at Blue Mountain. We start at 6pm sharp, do NOT be late. If you are not planning on playing on either of our post-season teams you do not need to attend. Note to all parents: The managers and coaching staff that have been selected for both teams have been watching and evaluating players throughout the regular season. In order to get a true sense of what a player's capabilities are, we do not base selections on a single game, nor a single tryout. All players have been made aware of this, and they have all been reminded within the last 2 weeks. ~See you at the park! |
