In 2008 CLL played host for the Junior Canadian National Championships, giving us an automatic berth in the tournament. Not having to worry about Provincials, our boys travelled for the entire summer in preparation for Nationals. Playing tough teams in the Interior, in the States, as well as local clubs we were ready for battle on Thursday, July 31 when the tournament began.
In Game 1 we opened strong with a 10-0 win over the Praries, crediting Vannerus with the win. Boxscore
Game 2 was another dominating win over Quebec 12-2 with the win going to Jeff Heidema. Boxscore
The A's only loss was in Game 3 of the tournament, ending 1-0 in favour of British Columbia (Whalley). Boxscore
In Game 4 Coquitlam rebounded with a 7-2 win over Atlantic, handing Vannerus is 2nd win of the tourny. Boxscore
Game 5 was a big 11-6 win over Ontario, also giving Heidema his 2nd win. Boxscore
In the semi-finals Coquitlam faced the Prairies, defeating them for a second time 9-3. An all around team effort, Cain is credited with the win. Boxscore
Due to the double knockout format, the Championship game featured a rematch of the semis and Coquitlam handed the Praries their 3rd loss of the tournament 10-6 to become National Champions! Vannerus was credited with his 3rd win of the tournament, and Heidema came up with the save. Boxscore
The Junior A's were set to represent Canada in the Junior League World Series for the first time since 1999.
