The RCMP has developed new STRONGER security measures when doing background checks on our league's volunteers. ALL volunteers (managers, coaches, executive etc) with Little League will now be subject to a criminal records check that COULD include fingerprinting by the RCMP.
Recently the RCMP has discovered the potential for persons who have been convicted of a sex offence and have recieved a pardon, to avoid being linked to their crime by using a change of name. The old RCMP background check was run through a name-based query allowing those offenders who have registered under a false name or who have changed their name to go undetected. The new date-of-birth query will eliminate that possibility by searching applicants for date-of-birth matches to convicted sex-offenders. If an applicant's date-of-birth is matched, they will be required to submit fingerprints to the RCMP to complete the crim check. Full details can be found under the Vulnerable Sector Verification section of the RCMP website.
Little League International, and Coquitlam Little League are committed to the safety and security of our players (your children), and will be strictly enforcing these new measures on our volunteer applicants. Information on the Certified Criminal Records Check can also be found on the RCMP's website. Due to the longer processing time IF applicants are required to submit fingerprints we are asking all those who are at all interested in coaching or volunteering with our league to please begin the application process as soon as possible. Applications could take 6-8 weeks to complete. The RCMP has committed to destroying fingerprint submissions relative to civil screening after the background check is complete.
We are currently drafting a NEW volunteer application for Coquitlam Little League, and will make it available as soon as possible. Crim check applications will be made available through Mark Colligan (Coach/Player Development) and will be free of charge to our volunteers.
