2011 Junior Wood Bat Tournament

This is a mid-season tournament in the Junior schedule that offers a unique opportunity to the 13/14 year old players in the Lower Mainland. Part of CoqLL's Junior program, all of our teams are entered into this tournament which also includes house teams from other cities in our community! All together this is a 12 team tournament that allows the Juniors to trade in the 'PING' of aluminium for the 'CRACK' of a wood barrel, and brings on the experience of playing like the pros.

Our Coquitlam teams are set to slug it out this year with the likes of Whalley, Langley, North Langley and Forest Hills for the title. This year the Jr. Wood Bat is set as a 5 day tournament from May 26th - May 30th so be sure to mark it in GREEN & GOLD on your calendar!

Games this year will be played at Blue Mountain Park as well as Brookmere Park in order to compensate for moving the tournament off the long weekend. All games will be played at the 54/80 diamond configuration due to limitations at Brookmere, however Blue Mountain has a 60ft rubber available for players if they choose.

    schedule of parent duties

Congratulations to the Whalley Reds for winning the 2011 Junior Wood Bat Invitational at Blue Mountain Park. A battle of team aces, Coquitlam's Ben McCarthy vs Whalley's Cole Hunt proved to be an exciting matchup! McCarthy threw 95 pitches for a 2 hit game, but was not able to find the zone early and the single run Whalley scored in the first proved to be enough for Hunt's 1 hit performance.

The weather held off, and we managed to get all 21 games in over 3 days, in what was an action packed weekend for all players, coaches and parents involved. A very big thank-you goes out to Therese Mickelson who did a fantastic job of organizing the duties schedule for Coquitlam's parents, and an extra thanks also goes out to those parents that always go the extra mile to help out where ever and whenever needed. And finally a big thanks to the umpires that pulled together at the last minute to make sure we had all of our games covered: Andrew, Scott, Bruce, Alana, Mike, Curtis, and Ollie.

Success in a tournament like this is gauged by the smiles from players and parents, so overall this tournament was a BIG success. Thanks again, and hope to see everyone back next year!
