Major
Welcome to the Majors!!!
This division is for children league age 11 and 12 years old. The majors divisions, will be split into 3 subdivisions Major AAA, Major AA & Major A.
This was a decision our board came to, using our Guiding Principles, in order to accommodate the increasing registration we have at this age. By having the 3 tiers within a division, it will allow more opportunities for each player to be developed at their respective skill level.
Major AAA (previously Major A) -
Major AAA rosters will be selected by Major AAA coaches via a draft. Major AAA coaches will draft players based on evaluation scores and past knowledge of the players in the age group. While the development of baseball skills is of foremost importance, this is a competitive division, and attendance of all practices and games is expected. Players can expect to practice 1-2 times per week and play 2-3 games per week. Practices are set by the coaches.
The Major AAA division will be the top tier in our major division. They will play internally as well as face competition from around the Lower Mainland. Players will begin to narrow their focus on a few positions where the majority of their in-game time will be. Unlike Major AA & A, the batting order is reset every game based on coach's decision and at bat performance. There is mandatory play at the Major AAA level but it does not have to be comparable innings in the infield/outfield and there is no guarantee that players will pitch or catch in games.
Major AA (previously Major B) -
The Major AA division will be made up of similar caliber players. The season will start with pitching and stealing. Practices and games will be more balanced to allow players the opportunity to test what they have practiced with more in game experiences. Equal play of infield/outfield and rolling over the batting order will ensure that all kids get a comparable number of at bats and innings in the field. All teams will play 2 games per week (mostly on the weekends) with 1 practice during the weekdays.
Major AA rosters will be constructed by the League Coordinator based on evaluation scores. The goal is to have all Major AA rosters with as close to an average evaluation score as possible. The foremost importance of this division is to develop baseball skills and baseball IQ. Fair play (even playing time) is expected, with all players having an opportunity to play any and all positions on the field. All children should feel comfortable in their environment and for that reason, one friend request is permitted. Players can expect 1-2 practices per week and 2 games per week.
Major A -
In the Major A tier, players will focus on skill development and a better understanding of baseball. Players and coaches will use any previous experience and knowledge as a foundation to become better baseball players and better athletes. The season will start with the pitching machine and pitching will be taught and introduced into games as the season progresses. Equal play of infield/outfield and rolling over the batting order will ensure that all kids get a comparable number of at bats and innings in the field. Teams will have 1 game per week with 2 practices during the weekdays.
All CLL Majors teams (AAA, AA & A) will be entered in the Mackin Yard Invitational Tournament, which takes place May long weekend.
All Majors age players have to opportunity to become Umpires and earn a few extra bucks for those fancy sliding mitts, bats and batting gloves. Players will need to attend at least 1 Umpiring clinic. Dates for the clinics will are posted on the CLL website.
Parents - the Mackin Yard game day experience is a product of your volunteer work. Volunteering is not only required, it is expected. Duties include field set-up, clean-up, scorekeeping , scoreboard, PA announcer and concession. You MUST attend the concession tutorial prior to the season to be permitted to work the concession
